Why

Employment rates for Autistic adults are low compared to the general population. In Australia, only 42% of Autistic adults are in the workforce and many are in jobs below their skill level.

Most research studies and employment programs have focussed on large corporate and government organisations; however, nearly all businesses in Australia are small or medium sized. Our study aims to better understand the experiences, perspectives and practices of SME owners and hiring staff when it comes to employing Autistic people. The findings will help identify practical ways to support businesses in creating inclusive workplaces.

What are the enablers and barriers to employing Autistic adults in Australian small and medium enterprises?

Take part

You are welcome to take part in our research if you are an owner of an Australian small or medium business (less than 200 employees) or a staff member of an Australian small or medium business who is responsible for hiring employees.

You will complete an online survey (approximately 20 minutes) about your demographic information, and experiences of and attitudes towards employing Autistic people.

Making a difference

Your insights will help us identify practical ways to support businesses in creating inclusive workplaces.
