Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with a Disability

The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (Disability Royal Commission) was established on 4 April 2019 by the Federal Government of Australia to help inform Australian governments, institutions and the wider community on how to prevent, and better protect, people with disability from experiencing violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation in the future.

The Disability Royal Commission is now complete. The final report was first published on 29 September 2023 and made 222 Recommendations on how to improve laws, policies, structures and practices to ensure a more inclusive and just society that supports the independence of people with disability and their right to live free from violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

You can view the Final report, including in alternative formats such as easy read, video, transcribed audio and braille by clicking on the links for each Final Report volume on the website. There is also a Brief Guide to the Final Report brochure available.

The Final report made no recommendations to individual organisations, as its focus was on systemic and society-wide changes. Aspect is reviewing the Final Report Recommendations for appropriate actions that can be implemented within its own schools and services.
