We're thrilled to share that our team is hard at work crafting our new resources ready for April 2026 in collaboration with the Autistic community, including fact sheets, compelling videos, and insightful podcasts - everything you need to help drive understanding and inclusion. You won't want to miss out!

We’ve grown from a Day to a Month — here’s why

Since 2021, 2nd April has marked Aspect’s World Autism Understanding Day — a day to recognise Autistic people, celebrate strengths, and call for a shift from simple awareness to genuine understanding.
But meaningful understanding can’t be achieved in just one day.
Through conversations with the Autistic community and insights from Aspect schools, services, partners, and families, it became clear that meaningful change needs time to learn, time to reflect, time to include, and time to act.
Recent research shows one in three Australians (33%) wouldn’t know how to respond if someone disclosed they are Autistic, and 41% wouldn’t know how to offer support (YouGov, February 2025). It is clear to us that growing awareness hasn’t translated into confident, informed inclusion.
So in 2026, we’re taking the next step: expanding WAUD into a full month of learning, storytelling, tools and community action.

WAUM 2026 Resource Hub – Coming Soon

Our 2026 Resource Hub will be packed with new and updated materials designed to educate, inform, and deepen understanding of Autistic perspectives across communities, workplaces, schools, services, and everyday life.

• Autistic-led videos and storytelling
• Practical tools for inclusive practice
• Evidence-informed info sheets and research highlights
• New podcasts, interviews and real-life stories

All created in partnership with Autistic people and featuring both returning and new voices.
