In Detail:

Improving Social Connections Framework

The Improving Social Connections Framework will provide a national guide for developing and delivering safe, inclusive and high-quality peer connection opportunities.

The Framework will be developed through consultation and co-design with Autistic people, families, carers, peer leaders, community organisations and other stakeholders. It will bring together lived experience, evidence, good practice and community knowledge to help support meaningful connection and belonging.

The Framework will include guidance on areas such as quality, safety, inclusion, accessibility, cultural responsiveness, peer leadership and community participation. It will help Community Partners and other organisations design and deliver peer connection activities that reflect the needs and priorities of the communities they support.

Information Hub

The Information Hub will be a free online resource designed to make it easier for people to find information, tools, resources and opportunities related to peer connection and belonging.

The Hub will provide access to practical information, guidance, training resources, community stories and examples of good practice. It will also be a central place for people to learn about the program, find opportunities to get involved and connect with future activities delivered by Community Partners.

The Hub will be designed to be accessible, easy to use and informed by the experiences and feedback of Autistic people and communities.

Resources, tools and training

The program will develop practical resources and tools to support Autistic people, peer leaders, families, carers, Community Partners and organisations involved in peer connection activities.

Resources may include guides, templates, information sheets, training materials, videos, case studies and other tools that support safe, inclusive and effective peer-led connection.

The resources will be informed by lived experience and designed to be practical, accessible and relevant to a range of communities and settings.

Community Partners

Community Partners will play a central role in delivering peer connection opportunities within local communities.

Through a future funding program, Community Partners will be supported to deliver activities that strengthen social connection, belonging and peer support for Autistic people, families and carers.

Community Partners may include Autistic-led organisations, community organisations, peer support organisations and other groups with experience supporting community participation and connection.

Activities delivered by Community Partners will reflect local needs, priorities and community strengths while being supported by the national Framework, resources and Information Hub.

Funding opportunities for Community Partners are expected to commence from early 2027.
