From 23 to 29 August 2026, Aspect is celebrating Speech Pathology Week 2026 and recognises the important role speech pathologists play in supporting Autistic people to communicate, connect and participate in everyday life.
Communication is central to how a person builds relationships, expresses thoughts and feelings, learns new skills and engages with their communities. This blog shines a spotlight on the incredible work of Aspect's speech pathologists and sharing their insights on why communication matters.
The Theme: 'Communication creates possibility'
This year's Speech Pathology Week theme, Communication Creates Possibility, highlights the opportunities that open up when Autistic people are supported to communicate in ways that work for them. Communication helps us connect with others, learn, make choices, participate in our communities and thrive. Whether someone communicates through speech, gestures, sign language, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) or a combination of methods, having access to meaningful communication can increase confidence, independence, inclusion and wellbeing.
