According to a 2018 research study by Amaze, the unemployment rate for Autistic people is 31.6% - almost six times the rate of people without a disability.

Since 2015, Aspect has been assisting people on the autism spectrum from 17 years of age to find meaningful employment, with services ranging from vocational assessments, interview support, mentoring, training - for both employers and employees - to ongoing support on the job. Aspect’s employment team take an individualised approach according to your goals, strengths and interests.

Last year Aspect met with auticon Australia, an IT consulting business and social enterprise that specifically hires people on the autism spectrum, and established a collaboration on future opportunities for Aspect Employment participants.

Around the same time, Dominic sought assistance from Aspect to find meaningful employment and joined our Employment Mentoring Program. Working with his mentor fortnightly, they identified Dominic’s desire and interest to work in the field of Data Analytics.

Together Dominic and his Aspect mentor worked on areas of development, such as interview skills, cover letter writing, communication skills, and tailoring his resume for specific job roles, including a position at auticon.

Shortly after applying for a role at auticon, Dominic was invited to an informal interview and a series of capability assessments to determine his skills and abilities. auticon have a uniquely designed and autism friendly hiring process and were able to work with Dominic’s mentor, and together they supported him through every step of the hiring process.

After the meetings and testing stages, Dominic was offered a full-time role as a Data Analyst at auticon. A very successful outcome, considering all of the coaching and sessions took place online during Covid lockdowns. But the best outcome is that we have a happy employee and employer. Congratulations Dominic!

Dominic is just one of the many successful job seekers that the Aspect team have worked with through the years. Transitioning to employment or looking for that next role can be challenging. Aspect’s team ensure they provide you with the right tools and guidance for your abilities to find meaningful employment.

We encourage you to learn more about Aspect’s employment services, and make sure to listen to our upcoming podcast in April, with Stephanie Soans from Aspect Employment as she discusses transitioning to employment in more detail.
