This week at Aspect Hunter School, we proudly hosted our annual ‘Preparing for Post School Life’ Expo – a warm and welcoming event that brings together students, families and over 25 service providers to help navigate the often-daunting transition from school into adulthood.

As part of our Work Education and Work Skills program, the expo is designed for students in Years 9–12 from Aspect Hunter School, Aspect Central Coast School, and nearby schools.

This year, we welcomed 26 organisations spanning employment, further study, community-based supports, therapy, sports, NDIS, respite, and more — all with one shared goal: helping young people explore what’s possible after school.

One of those students was 15-year-old William, who has a clear goal in mind - he wants to run a lawnmowing business. Right now, he's already mowing lawns for neighbours and local businesses as part of the school’s lawnmowing social enterprise. His mum, Monique, described the expo as an important step in understanding what’s available:

“It is great to gather information from all the different service providers and come up with a plan. The process of William becoming a young adult is very overwhelming, so knowing what options we have is very helpful.”

Another student shared how having access to this kind of information in a calm and familiar environment made a big difference:

“I went to a jobs expo earlier this year and found it very daunting due to the number of people and the noise. But this time I got the same information in a comfortable environment.”

Their stories are a reminder of why events like this matter. As Aspect Hunter School Principal Craig McNee shared:

“Our school is very passionate about preparing our students for life after they leave us. We start these conversations in Year 7. We want our students to leave us with the skills they need to thrive in adulthood.”

We’re incredibly grateful to the stallholders, families, and students who participated, and a big shout-out to our amazing Kangaroo Café team for keeping everyone energised on the day! 🙌
