These claims are damaging, as they misrepresent the science and reinforce the harmful idea that autism is something to be eradicated, rather than a natural form of human neurodiversity.
Today’s statement also serves to reinforce harmful stereotypes and overlooks the inherent worth of every Autistic person.

“Some studies have suggested a link between paracetamol use in pregnancy and autism, but these were lower-quality studies with important limitations. The most rigorous research to date – including large population-based studies using careful methods like sibling comparisons – has not found any evidence of a causal link. Any assertions to the contrary should be accompanied by transparency about the evidence on which they are based, so that the broader research and medical communities can evaluate them rigorously.
“Similarly, although there is some preliminary evidence that leucovorin or folinic acid might help with some symptoms in autism-related conditions where there is a known folate metabolism issue, it is far from being a proven treatment for autism more broadly.”
