Aspect’s Central Coast receives funding for new education and employment program
From Lattes to Cappuccinos, our Aspect Central Coast high schoolers are brewing up a storm through a new work education and employment program, which aims to prepare students for a smooth transition into employment post-school.
Thanks to the generous support of a number of philanthropic funders – Waratah Education Foundation, Financial Reporting Specialists (FRS), CompNow and VivCourt – Aspect’s Central Coast secondary school received funding for the purchase a coffee van and barista training course.
The initiative operates as a small social enterprise. So, not only are students gaining hands-on barista skills, they also are also applying commercial and organisational skills to run this wonderful program.
Geraldine Campbell, CEO of Waratah Education Foundation, commented: “We are thrilled to fund our first, autism-specific educational project, and see this initiative come to life. The students have done an amazing job.”
Six students have been trained to date with more students keen to get their hands on the espresso machine.
“The coffee van has opened up many opportunities for all of us to practice our barista skills at school and out in the community. It has helped us feel confident and proud.”
