Autistic students and their families have recently attended a Preparing for Post School Life Expo, hosted by Aspect Hunter School, involving more than 20 local service providers and businesses, offering advice and support to students during the major transition from high-school.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all participants, staff, students, families, and the wonderful organisations who made the Aspect Hunter School 'Preparing for post school life Expo' possible.

This annual event is part of Aspect Hunter School’s Work Education and Work Skills program, and is kindly funded by the Greater Charitable Foundation. The program was developed to improve employment outcomes and opportunities for young autistic people upon transition to post-school employment and/or tertiary study.

This year’s Expo featured 22 stalls that provided attendees with access to a wide range of services and organisations able to assist students, as well as their families and carers, as students move into adulthood.

Aspect Hunter School Principal, Craig McNee, said the expo is part of Aspect Hunter School’s commitment to supporting students through to the next stage of their lives.

“Transitioning out of high school can be a daunting prospect for many teenagers, none more so than for those with an Autism diagnosis,” said Mr McNee.

“For many of our students, high school has provided not just a place for education, but also a safe, caring, stable and inclusive environment, which is why transitioning to a new vocation can be particularly challenging.

“Our Work Education and Work Skills program provides our senior students with a range of critical skills and opportunities to support their transition out of high school and the Post School Life Expo also enables us to link our families with key services providers that can assist this transition process.”

The day was a great success and we look forward to next years!
