Central Coast School for Children with Autism

Our school is located at Terrigal and provides educational services for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders across the Central Coast region. The base school at Terrigal has classes for children in the age range of 3¾ to 12 years, providing a K-6 educational environment.

We also provide educational services in conjunction with mainstream schools. In partnership with the Department of Education and Training, Wamberal Public School hosts two K-6 satellite classes. The aim of these classes is to prepare the children for inclusion in their own local school or support class.

In partnership with the Catholic Education Office and the Diocese of Broken Bay we have two satellite classes:

  • At St Brendan’s Catholic Primary School, Lake Munmorah, we provide a K-6 Itinerant class. This is for children who are capable of being in the mainstream but need support to achieve success in the school environment.
  • At St Peter’s College, Tuggerah, we have three satellite high school classes. These classes are for students who have had some difficulty in a mainstream setting during their primary years and need help with developing social skills and organisational skills.

Our total enrolment across the Central Coast School for Children with Autism school community is 58 students. A family school counsellor based at the Terrigal campus provides support for enrolled students and their families. This in turn strengthens the communication between home and school and the outcomes for each student.

At our main school we provide the following Outreach and Consultancy services:

BUILDING BLOCKS® Early Intervention for Autism

This consists of a centre-based service and a home-based service. The centre-based service operates two half days per week at our Terrigal school and is available to children aged 2 to 5 years. The home-based service offers a play-based program to children in their home with a teacher for half a day per fortnight, in addition to offering support to families.

There are 15 children who currently access Early Intervention for Autism.

School Outreach Service

This service is available to students in a mainstream school who require support in the areas of communication and behaviour. Our aim is always to work in partnership with all stakeholders, i.e. students, parents, school and the community.

At any one time we provide services for 30-50 outreach students.
