Trek Peru 2009

5 inspired adventurers (Vy, Ngaire, Jeanagh, Cathy & Tamara trekked through the spectacular Sacred Valley of the Incas in Peru and raised over $25,000 for Aspect.

“After 8 months of training and 6 months of fundraising, we made it!
What an incredible journey, and not one easily described in words.  From the amazing city of Lima, to the charming town of Cusco and the majestic and surreal Inca constructions at Machu Picchu. We were delighted by the people, the food, the sights and history.

We are very proud of what we have achieved, raising money to help Aspect provide much needed services. We are so grateful to everyone who supported our Inspired Adventure. The journey has been quite an experience for us, and one that we will always remember.”

Challenge

In 2008 Matthew was motivated to take on a weight loss challenge by the passing of a school friend, Lawrence.  As Lawrence had Asperger’s he left Mathew’s school in year 9 to attend a school which better catered for his needs.  But during the time they were at school together Matthew & Lawrence became close friends.

Matthew says “despite being an active sportsman I have had a weight problem since I was young so I decided on a weigh loss challenge to achieve something in Lawrence’s memory, and hopefully raise some money to help other children with the same disability.

I began on 28th July at 132kg and gave myself 14 weeks (a university semester) to drop the weight.  I started exercising and transformed my entire diet and eating patterns.   I had hoped to raise $3,000 but pledges started flooding in from college members, school friends and family.  I lost 29 KG and raised over $5,000 thanks to the generous support of my friends & family.

In memory of Lawrence.
