Aspect Early Intervention

Aspect has over 25 years experience delivering best practice intervention and services, helping children aged 0-7 with an autism spectrum disorder, their families and communities. Aspect continues to be a leading provider of autism specific early intervention through its evidenced based service.

Aspect Early Intervention is a comprehensive family centred early intervention service, delivered by a team of speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, special education teachers and psychologists who adhere to a transdisciplinary framework. The goal of the program is to develop the family’s capacity to meet their child’s daily needs by building foundations in areas such as social relating, communicating, behaviour, play, self help skills and community access.

Aspect Early Intervention offers the following services:

Home Based Service

An individual educational plan is developed for the child in partnership with the family, identifying goals in line with the family’s priorities. The service involves: assessment and program development; parent education and support; child/parent play-based sessions supported by Early Intervention Specialist; as well as collaboration with other services.

Centre Based Service

The centre based service is a year-long program designed for families of children at preschool age. The centre based service is held eight times per term and has two concurrent components:

1. Child component – children attend a highly structured small group (maximum of 6 children). The group operates for 2 hours and the children participate in 4 structured components which include: indoor play, outdoor play, circle time and snack time.

2. Parent component – parents attend a 2 hour structured series of parent training sessions designed to provide support and promote understanding and management of an ASD.

Therapy Services

Families can choose to receive a speech pathology and/or occupational therapy service, which can be held at home or school as negotiated by the parents/teachers. Baseline assessments will be administered (formal, informal, dynamic) and therapy goals and objectives developed. The focus of speech pathology services will incorporate communication and social skill development as key intervention areas. Whereas occupational therapy services will incorporate sensory regulation, self-care skills, motor skills, cognitive/perceptual skills and play skills as key intervention areas.

Hanen – More Than Words

‘More Than Words’ is a unique, world renowned Hanen Program which provides an intensive training program for parents of children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder under age seven. The program is held over two school terms, and consists of ten parent workshops, as well as four home based consultations with the parent and child. The program provides parents with the tools to help engage with their child and develop their child’s communication skills.
